Client Story: Zac Shparberg

Zac is a mental health occupational therapist. He shares his journey from family-managed finances to trusting Stockspot for building wealth.

Meet Zac

My name is Zac, and I’m a dedicated mental health occupational therapist currently working in the public sector. I’m 30 years old and live with my partner and my dog Dusty.

Growing up, I was lucky to have parents who were quite frugal with money and had a really strong work ethic. Nothing was for free, and luxuries had to be earned. This helped me understand the importance of saving and not to take money for granted.

However, having parents that put firm financial boundaries in place did somewhat prevent me from learning to manage my money independently.

Why I decided to trust Stockspot with our investment portfolio

My money was managed by my parents from an early age, so eventually I needed to peel away and do some research of my own.

This led to me changing banking institutions and ultimately discovering Stockspot as a high value alternative to building wealth in lieu of entering the property market – which just seemed so out of reach at this stage.

I often found myself scrolling through real estate websites to see how the market is doing – and more often than not, I closed the browser with a sense of despair and pessimism!

It’s not just the high property prices in Sydney – there are the higher interest rates that I’d face if I took out a mortgage.

Then there are the high strata fees attached to apartments and a lack of desirable features (i.e. internal laundry, balcony, built-in wardrobes, etc) that kill my hope and enthusiasm for entering the market.

All these factors make it seem more worthwhile to invest in something like Stockspot to gradually build wealth rather than dropping all of my money on a deposit.

My investing experience

My partner had already been using Stockspot for a while so I felt like I could trust them, and it was really easy to understand from the website.

“It’s so user friendly, especially for someone like myself who has very little knowledge or experience in the finance world, and it was easier to sign up than for a credit card or bank account.”

What I like about Stockspot

I like how user-friendly it is. It provides information on the app both numerically and visually, so even I can understand it!

It’s really easy to deposit cash as well as withdraw – which is helpful for when you have some unexpected expenses!

It’s good to know that your money isn’t locked away, and that Stockspot makes it easy to access your money.

My money tips for those considering investing with Stockspot

I’d tell my friends to seriously consider Stockspot. The fact that you can choose the level of risk that you are comfortable with means you have control over your investments without having to actually manage them every day.

In fact, I’d recommend not checking it every day, as it’s a long game and you can’t get bogged down on the daily ups and downs of the market. Sit back, and let your money work for you!

I’m far better off using both Stockspot and savings accounts to manage my money (instead of just savings) to set me up for the future.
